Hurray for summer! It’s finally time to kick back and enjoy the summer; time to go sleep all day and party all night: that’s right, its time for summer vacation. What are the top summer vacations? Here’s a list of five, and some tips to making them the best vacations ever.

5. Elk Rapids, MI. This small town, with a population of 1,700, ranks in at number five on the list. While its seems to be your average small town, its actually a charming little getaway spot. Michigan state students return home for the summer and liven it up, and it is also home to the Grand Hotel. A large and historical resting place, this hotel offers 5 star amenities to its guests at reasonable summer rates. Cars are forbidden on the island, so be prepared to travel by foot, but don’t worry because its small enough to walk everywhere. Try horseback riding, relaxing in the spa and geo-caching all around the isle.

4. Seattle, WA. The county’s second rainiest city? Also one of the greatest vacation locations! Summer afternoon rains are peaceful and beckon the great nightlife scene to emerge and take over when they’re through. The nightlife is wild and a must try, because move over New York, Seattle’s doing it a whole new way. For daytime activities, take a ferry ride, or make an excursion outside the city to the hiking paths and trails just outside the city limits. The forests will astound you during the day, and the DJ’s in the night district will dub step you into unconsciousness.

3. Baja, CA. Technically the United States, technically Mexico, Baja, CA is the ultimate getaway. Relax all day on a hammock and party all night. Enjoy coronas on the beach at any of the exquisite resorts this city has to offer. Take a run (or hike) across the land and feel like you’re the first explorer to set foot on the island. Its untouched beauty beckons the summer traveler to take it in.

2. Ashville, NC. For the fourth of July make a trip to the mountainous region in Ashville, NC. The annual Ingles 4th of July Celebration takes place on the town lawn, and after the fireworks are over, everyone goes out to enjoy the night. Hike and shop during the day, soaking up the town’s cute Appalachian charms. Consider renting a private cabin with your family or friends for the week, and take in the nature. Drive into the city at night for a real nice time, and relax because these folks know how to charm you all day, and all night.

Shop at the Destin Commons, a large outdoor mall with all types of shops. Dine at the Commons, or at the fine resort restaurant. Nightlife flourishes here, with a line of bars and clubs down the beach and marina, inviting tourists in for their week of Epicureanism and pleasure.
