Exciting And Affordable Summer Vacations

Everyone needs to take a break every now and then. A favorite way to escape from reality, relax and unwind is by traveling. Most travel is done during the summer months when school is out. People often look for affordable summer vacations. Travel destinations can be anything from exotic places, to water parks, to beaches to historic landmarks.

You may be one of those people avoid taking vacations in fear of the high cost of travel. With good planning and ample information, you can take that dream vacation without breaking the bank. Here are a few exciting yet affordable summer vacations that you can share with your love ones and friends.

A cruise is a predictable summer getaway. Favorite cruise destinations are Las Vegas, Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean. Perhaps due to numerous travel advisories issued by the government, people have been seeking domestic over international destinations. It used to be that you could get a great deal by booking last minute, but since a lot of people have been doing that lately, last minute deals are fast becoming a thing of the past. Internet resources continue to prove itself to be great at finding travel deals. Planning your getaway a year in advance is no longer frowned upon. In fact, it is even encouraged. You may even want to consider booking with travel agencies because they might even offer you an option to make monthly payments on your vacation.

You can also opt for road trips. This gives you a chance to see your own country at your own pace. You can choose to stay at a camping resort, a hotel, or a bed and breakfast. These accommodations offer great rates. Here is a tip when you call a hotel to make a reservation, be sure to ask them for their lowest rate. Most hotels will not give you their lowest available rate unless you specifically ask for it. Flexibility is a plus when planning your vacation. Rates are not always available for the dates you want. With a little flexibility, you can opt to change some dates to take advantage of the best rates. And if a hotel is fully booked on the dates of your reservation, they may have a partner hotel nearby that can accommodate you on your travel dates.

Make sure you do your research. Establish what you want before finalizing any reservations. Read up on the hotels before booking. If you are traveling with your kids or pets, check if the hotel is child friendly or pet friendly. Find out about the destination before you get there. To save money on transportation, look for an accommodation that strategically placed near shopping malls, restaurants, convenience store and a police station. If you are planning a romantic getaway, you will want to steer away from party destinations. There are a lot of affordable summer vacation packages available for couples. Take the time to plan your activities when you get to your destination. Use your online resources to find affordable summer vacations.

Use Your RV and Take a Napa Vacation

Here’s a good idea: use your RV to create a home base for an inexpensive, unique and wonderful Napa RV vacation. This posh vacation destination doesn’t advertise itself as friendly to RVs, but it has some relatively unknown gems you should know about.

Most guide books, like those at the California Tourism Guide, extol all the wonderfully quaint inns, the world-class spas, the golf resorts and the hotels affiliated with wineries and vineyards. But they won’t really tell you about a RV park which is an easy walk, over a bridge, to downtown Napa. As you might expect, in this place dedicated to the good life, this RV park has concrete pads, nice grass buffers between sites and all the amenities you’d want, including a nice class of other visitors.

At the north end of the Valley, there’s a RV park and campground near Calistoga, also within easy walking distance from downtown. Especially for the vacationer who wants to enjoy fine dining, a bit of wine, and the wide vistas available to those on foot, being able to avoid a drive for dinner and night out is wonderful. There’s a great value to having restaurants and other amenities within walking distance of your accommodation, and if your accommodation happens to be your very own RV, why then you’ve truly maximized the value potential!

Many of the wineries you’d want to visit are set up to accommodate the van-type, mini-busses used on the popular “Limo Tours” of wineries. Accordingly, the parking lots are set up for easy ingress and exits for oversized vehicles like the RV. Another option, of course, would be to utilize a guided tour company for your winery visits — which, of course, comes with the benefit of a designated driver.

If you use the Napa RV park, you can walk to the Wine Train terminal, the Oxbow market and historic downtown Napa, just 10 blocks from the RV Park, reachable by foot or a city shuttle bus.

Last, remember that Napa Valley is just 50 miles north of San Francisco, so you won’t need to drive hours and hours from Napa to other interesting tourist destinations.

RV Traveling With England Vacations

With RV traveling becoming so popular in recent years, many Americans who visit England and continental Europe consider hiring an American style motorhome such as an Airstream or a Winnebago, rather than a local make such as a Elddis or Swift motorhome.

However, there are some major differences you should be aware of if you are thinking of renting a motorhome in a foreign country such as England. Here are some of the pros and cons to consider:

First of all, in England they drive on the other side of the road than in the USA. This also means that the driver sits on the other side of the vehicle. A left hand drive motorhome from America would be a disadvantage for driving in the UK, where vehicles are right hand drive, although it would be better if you go on to travel in continental Europe, where they drive on the right.

Another safety issue that this causes, is that the doors of an American RV would open into the middle of the road instead of the sidewalk, which would be a safety hazard if you are RVing with children.

The larger size of American motorhomes can also make them problematic for maneuvering and navigating the roads in Europe, which are comparatively narrow and bendy compared with the wide, straight roads in the USA.

Plus, you will need to get a class C truck driving licence if your motorhome weighs more than 7.5 tonnes.

American motorhomes are also more expensive to run than European versions, since they are less fuel efficient, so whether they run on gas or diesel, they will use more of it. And although Winnebagos are reliable, any repairs could also be expensive, requiring specialist mechanics and parts shipped in from America.

The benefits of Winnebagos and other American style motorhomes are the increased space and luxury they offer. Typically, they will have heating and airconditioning, showers, waste hook ups, electricity and generators, TVs and other appliances. They will also have an automatic transmission.

With pull out sides as well, you will have plenty of extra space for separate bedrooms and dining areas, and some will even have roof top seating.

So the choice is yours: whether you prefer to have convenience while traveling or luxury while camping, you will enjoy the freedom of a road trip exploring the English countryside.
